Dig deep into the Earth Dig as deep as you can Drill through the rocks of the Earth Dig deep every man Dig deep for the gold Rip the Earth right back Sprays out multi-coloured Ancient and black Chorus The eyes of a house Heart of a home Plucked from their sockets Filled with Makrolon® Mould it and shape it Make it beautiful Mould it around your body Forget the linen and the wool Squeeze it through the windows And the doors of every home Search through the whole of society With a fine plastic comb Chorus Burn it for its heat, burn it as a fuel Burn it to keep us warm and to keep us cool Build the roads and build the cars To get us places fast So that every place you go Can be just the same as the last Chorus
2.
Blackberry picking I’m finger lickin’ As we hop from tree to tree The fire lights brewing the beer behind the burner It’s up on the hill for me Chorus Fly the wheel, run the river Fly the wheel, run the river Past the tilling of the clay red earth The black earth and the brown Out the dales and into the glens England’s ribbons unwound Chorus Caught the ferry then another few Said farewell mainland Every mile was ten years past Like rocks to sand Well I’ll go with you, to the setting sun Well I’ll go with you and it won’t seem long Chorus
3.
Circle me round and round Circle me round and round And for a moment, the circle is everything Me and all of you that make up this ring. Chorus Crisps and the candles, The beer and the banjos. Ode to the lamp light With music through the late night. We’re all in the pub to sing. So let it ring! Embrace me, take my hand, Fingers gripping, round and round And for a moment, the music is every thing But without you all it’s just vibrating strings Chorus Circle me, round and round Circle me, round and round Circle me, round and round Circle me, round and round Chorus
4.
Last Train 03:32
Past the Lydbrook junction And the Hadnock Halt The last train out the station To Herefordshire my home Goodbye to the Wye Valley Rail That glided the river so well But Kerne Bridge was one too far To swerve the river’s swell There’s champagne and there’s brandy The driver tips his hat He’s had two glasses of the stuff Before we reach Symonds Yat And the people all are waving Goodbye to the tracks And hello to a brand new road To bring the tourists back The last train out the station The last train on the line The first cut for the country In 1959. Goodbye to the buses The 21st cuts hard But the train is only sixty pounds With a young persons railcard The last train out the station The last train on the line Another cut for the country In a town and a city’s time.
5.
We went out, searching for Mars Out in the meadows, out with the stars Theo, Jess, Tallulah, you, me and my brother Out for the night, out for the sight, Of the red planet, burning so bright Chorus And all around us was the roundhouse Lanterns lit the light through the wild wood Our friends weaved around the wattle and the daub We squeezed them all in as best as we could. We walked through the dark dark wood The path that we took climbed so high The embers of the fire floated past the maple leafs Up to join the stars to brighten the sky. The music and the food, the drink and the talk Flowed throughout the evening It past through the pools and up through the trees Up to join the moon as it announced it’s leaving Chorus And as the moon waned, we all waited And announced, all as one, We’ll hold our breath all together And wait for the rising of the sun
6.
The Crag 04:07
The crag on the coast, an outcrop of land Looks out on the sea And everyday it’s touched by the waves That wear it continuously But the crag has the coast to guard its back And keep it company Every wave it meets is different Each with their own qualities Some are soft and others are rough Waves from the seven seas But the crag has the coast as its constant To keep it company The waves scoop around gnaw at it’s sides Until an arch is born It becomes the playground for seals and fish Until the arch falls down. And now the crag, has no constant The sea is all around It’ll stand for a time, all alone Until it is drowned
